Update Group delivered complex, large-scale MEP and fire protection systems for the modernisation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ principal trade gateway.
Overview
The Kingstown Commercial Port Modernisation project represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments undertaken in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Delivered in partnership with Aecon Group Inc., the programme transformed the country’s primary cargo port into a modern logistics hub capable of supporting increased trade volumes and larger vessels.
Located on a reclaimed site in the capital, the project forms part of a wider national strategy to strengthen supply chains, improve port security and enhance operational efficiency through new terminal buildings, upgraded yard infrastructure and integrated systems.
Our Scope
Update Group was appointed to deliver the full Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection scope for the port modernisation works, covering all major building services systems across the site from design development through to commissioning and validation.
Our scope spanned the port’s operational buildings and external infrastructure, supporting continuous 24/7 operations and the long-term performance of a nationally critical asset. Delivery required careful coordination across multiple work fronts and close alignment with the wider construction programme.
Global procurement and island logistics were key considerations throughout the project. All major systems were sourced off-island and delivered through extended supply chains, requiring disciplined planning and sequencing. Midway through delivery, the project was impacted by Hurricane Beryl, a Category 5 storm. Works resumed almost immediately following the event, reflecting the resilience and professionalism of the combined project team.
A nationally critical port upgrade delivered to international standards under complex logistical and environmental conditions.
